Another Dog

So, since my fiance and I bought our dog...my mom has temporarily moved in with me and she has a 210 English Masstif. He's a really laid back adorable dog. Well, it seems that our dog - Manny - has really taken to having another dog around. It gives him somebody who wants to play (Stars and Stripes are obviously not interested) and when we leave and put him in his crate...he doesn't cry anymore. I say, when my mom moves out, we get another small dog - 20 lbs and less, likes cats and other dogs, and likes children. I think Manny will be happier. However, my fiance says that having 2 cats and 2 dogs is too much of a "ZOO". I've been trying to convince him we should go to Animal Friends (where we bought Manny) and put in a request for the particular dog I am looking for and when they have one...if it fits our household...then we buy a buddy for Manny. I think I'm slowly breaking him down...but how do I make him realize the need for another pet without him feeling like he's in a "ZOO?"

I am probably the wrong one to comment on this as I have way more than that at home, but here is what I would tel him - dogs are pack animals. Both of you and your cats are part of his pack and he likes that, but it is obvious that he misses having a buddy in the pack that is the same species. And as I'm sure you've found out, tow really isn't that much more trouble than 1. I think it is wise to look for a certain size and temperament. Just talk rationally and he will probably come around.

THANK YOU! and great suggestion!
