Little Shelter

I first found out about Little Shelter through a friend. I then looked it up on my computer and saw a wonderful dog, Angel who only had three legs on their site. I read Angel's story and needed to see her. I went to Little Shelter and the staff was amazing. There were extemely caring and everywhere I looked it was like being in someones home. Where all the members of their family who happen to be dogs and cats had their pictures proudly displayed. The staff interviewed me and had me fill o… read more

I Love Little Shelter!

Little Shelter has been my literal home for months! There is no place I look forward to going to more. Not only do I have the animals to rely on, but the employees at the shelter are kind, supportive, and caring. Everyone understands that as a shelter we often must go the extra mile to help the community, the animals in both the shelter and the community and each other. Little Shelter aims to keep all of their employees, volunteers, adopters, and pets safe from all sources of danger and it does … read more

WHY LITTLE SHELTER IS BIG ON KINDNESS & CARING

Little Shelter has been caring for Long Island's homeless and helpless animal population for many many years and has done so with extraordinary kindness and respect for all the little (and big) ones in its care. The people who make up the human portion of Little Shelter are saints beyond normal standards. A visit to Little Shelter makes one realize that there is hope beyond hopelessness for so many that have been rescued by this wonderful organiztion. There is an attention to detail that not onl… read more

Second Chance Animal Shelter

Almost two months ago my wife and I received a phone call from a friend telling me the story of a 6 year-old German Shepherd male named Garrett. Garrett's owner had sadly passed away, and no family members were able to care for Garrett. Luckily for Garrett, he was delivered to a group of heroes who give of themselves to Second Chance Animal Shelter in East Brookfield, MA. My wife and I traveled to the shelter for what was for me, my second wonderful, seamless, and professional adoption experi… read more

Maxfund makes my children feel special.

Since my children were born we have always chosen a charity to sponsor for their birthday instead of receiving gifts. For the last two years we chose Maxfund. We have always been warmly greeted and the kids ages 4 and 7 have been made to feel so special for their efforts. We were given a tour and allowed to visit and love on all the animals. The staff and volunteers welcomed our questions and were so nice to us. In years past we chose another new fancy shelter, yet despite the kids donations … read more

Erie County SPCA supports Veterinary Students

I am a fourth year veterinary student at Cornell University and I am doing an externship at the Erie County SPCA. Dr. Chevalier and Dr. Moran are so awesome and are helping me to learn more about veterinary medicine and allow me to practice my skills with them in the shelter. I think there is a lot of potential to teach students while still performing the funtions the shelter needs to accomplish on a day to day basis. Both the students and the shelter benefit from this sort of experience, it i… read more

Gracie says please help the Erie County SPCA!

Gracie here again to tell you how much my mommy loves the SPCA! The number one reason is because she found me there! I am one lucky girl. Mom can't help herself but buy me all kinds of toys and supplies I need to be happy and healthy. This shelter loves its animals, but we are rapidly outgrowing our building! We could do so much more for animals if we had a bigger infirmary to help more injuried animals. We try our best with the space we have, but the ZooToo award could make even bigger and… read more

I had so much fun!

I got a chance to go to the zootoo rally in St. Louis and had a great time. I brought my foster puppy Warren and he had a good time too! He got so much attention and even got his picture taken with a race car and driver that advertise for Stray Rescue on the car! I could not believe all the people that came out to the event on a work day! I took the day off with a case of zootooitis. I got to have a tour of the building...thanks to VIP status hanging with the foster care coordinator, my fri… read more

I Love the SPCA Serving Erie County

How open minded and progressive is the SPCA in Tonawanda, NY? I was the manager of a pet store, who made a huge sale every time an SPCA Adoptee walked in my store with their new family. I started volunteering with Gina Browning, the SPCA PR Director. One day I said "Too bad you don't have a store - I would love to work at the SPCA, but all I know is Retail." She said "Let's go talk to Barbara Carr," the Erie County SPCA's relatively new Director. Barbara said "Write a pr… read more

I'm proud of the Erie County SPCA!

Seven years ago I walked into the Erie County SPCA for the first time. I was in search of a cat or kitten to love and to serve as a companion for my cat Maxwell. Immediately I felt welcomed by the staff who conducted an adoption interview. Friendly volunteers helped me find my kitten who I named MacKenzie. When I had found the perfect kitten, the staff took the time to talk with me about how to introduce the two cats and what to expect. About six months after I adopted MacKenzie, … read more

Keeping the Buffalo NY Area's Animal's Safe

Buffalo is a depressed area, yet we have an organized, well functioning SPCA, with progressive programs that are succeeding in lowering the number of unwanted pets being born. We educate children to respect animals. We train, socialize, and enrich the animals in our care to make their stay here more bearable, and their new home more likely to be forever. We teach adopters about animal behavior and care so their new family member remains one. We have Puppergarten for puppy parents, to start t… read more
