Not a born traveler

Today was Robby's first visit to the vet. Lizzie had to be run in as well for her annual checkup, and we all know how well she responds to that - she usually foams all over the place and howls like she's dying up until the moment she gets dumped out on the examination table. Then she turns into a rag. But Robby was a mystery. How would he react? Not well. He escaped our cardboard cat carrier by sheer force and was racing around the car before we even set out. I had to hold the lid… read more

Moving Day

Ok, So its almost moving day (2 more weeks and the anxiety is already building). I have to admit i feel a little bit guilty. Stink was originally the only cat in our house when he lived with me at college and only had a friend when we were home for breaks and holidays. Then my roommate got another cat when he was about a year old. When we were home he and my parents cat always got a long great, running and playing; hanging out together. Well now we are moving out to a house where he will… read more

20.6 pounds!

This weeks weigh in is up one pound! I am happy with steadfast progress. This week he really started acting like a 5 month old puppy should. He was playing with the big dogs, barking at them, trying to catch the ball and chasing bugs! He's really smart too. He learned sit in about 5 minutes with the use of a clicker. read more

Kelsie's getting all fixed up

Well, we got the flea issue taken care of. That Frontline Dr. Brown, the vet, gave us works like a charm! I was surprised, since we had used a few other things before, and they didn't do anything. But that Frontline is THE BERRIES! Also found out that Kelsie has some skin allergies, so she's been perscribed Benadryl. She gets the liquid, not the pills, 'cause they're too strong. So she gets' half a tea spoon, which we put in this dropper thing to give to her. Hopefully all the itchiness will go… read more

Pancreatitis

Gina was diagnosed w/ pancreatitis on May 2. After daily IV fluids, pain management and one on one care, she is recovering very well. Today is May 8th and she is almost normal. What a relief. Thanks to the fine staff at Central Texas Animal Hospital she was quickly dxd. and aggressively treated. We picked her up every evening in order to reduce her stress and to keep a close eye on her. Yesterday she was back to her usual daily walk! Yippee~~~ My gut feeling is she had a reaction to something in… read more

Please spay/neuter!

As a group, we spay and neuter every animal prior to adoption. There are 1 million unwanted and stray animals in Central Ohio. If the hard working rescue groups here are going to make a difference, every animal needs to be altered. We have been very lucky to find vets that are willing to work with us for discounted services. They will even alter our ferals. I am so happy to work with the volunteers in this group. They work so hard to take care of all of the animals. The co… read more

Rest in peace, Gnarlita

Everyone, Thank you so much for your good wishes. This seems like a horrid deja vu, it instantly puts me in mind of my iguana Ziebe's passing 6 yrs ago. Anyhow, my best little iggie girl in the world, Gnarla Jean Tuvolt, passed away about an hour ago. She seemed to be perking up at home--the eating & pooping were a good sign!--which gave me hope she might overcome whatever had plagued her. (I haven't received the histopathology report yet, but it's a pretty good be… read more

Storm

Storm was a 8 week old kitten when she had a broken femer. Two surgeries later no luck. Well after fostering her all this time she wasn't about to go back, so I was a foster failure again. She is fine with 3 good legs and 1 stiff leg. She is as lovable as a cat can be. read more

Beware of Rattlesnake Vaccine

My friends dog got bit by a snake today and while researching info about snake bites I came across this and wanted to share this! Blossom is a 4 year old Landseer colored Newfoundland. She was a show dog with her Championship, but more important she is our beloved pet. She will never be shown again . We live on a farm in rural SW Nebraska. We walked out the backdoor one morning to find a rattlesnake. It struck and missed my husband … read more

Gnarla at Home, Day 3

She slept with Yazzy, contentedly, during her first night home. The next day was a work day, which usually entails my being gone nearly 12 hours. To ensure no climbing, leaping or falling, I put Gnarla into her one-level abode upon several layers of towels and blankets. I made her a big yummy breakfast of collards, zucchini, banana, & bits of oranges, and reluctantly bit her adieu. Luckily, my roommate works nearby, and comes home for lunch. I called him during my break an… read more

Dag is doing well!

I weighed the boy on Thursday and he's gained six pounds. He now weighs 19.6. That is still very low for a five month old gsd pup. His sister weighs 35 pounds and his big brother weighs 50. But Dag feels so much better. He's eating better and playing like a normal puppy would. The lady that was interested in adopting him backed out because of his health issues. She had a lot going on and taking care of him is nearly a full time job in itself. read more
