Changing my mind

Can you change your opinion about something without looking like a total ass??? I don't know if you can or not but I'm going to anyway. I have always supported mandatory spay/neuter laws. My reasoning was this... If more pets, meaning cats and dogs, were spay/neuter then it would mean that there would be fewer animals ending up in shelters and animal control facilities. Has anyone tried contacting the frontrunners on their view on animal issues??? I did and got a little glimpse of Obama but nothing with Clinton or Mcain. I'm thinking maybe I should start with Senators and Reps. I tried contacting the Pres. candidates and now all I'm getting is email from their campaigns with no more info than I had before.
