They grow so fast

Henry has been with me for less than a week but I think that he has already grown about an inch. He was smaller than my foot at first. Now he is about the same size. I am going to slowly start to get him off of the bottle. He will be ready to start testing canned food soon and I want him to be ready. I am also starting to introduce him to the litter box. He doesn't have a mother to copy so it may take a little planning. He has been using paper towels and a lot of cloth towels. The p… read more

Bottled up feelings

I never remember that something so tiny can be so much work. Henry isn't litter trained so he just does what he does. I had to put a tote of soiled cloths and towels outside to soak because he has wet so much. I am starting to litter train him. I took the lid off of one of those buckets that litter comes in and poured litter into it. When he started hollering that he was having a bowel movement (yeah, like I won't have know that from the smell) I gently took him out and let him drop it… read more

Tiny kitten hickeys

I was suffering from empty cage syndrome yesterday. I took Rumble back to the SPCA on Friday so that she could take part in the special adoption program they had this weekend. The place felt a little empty with four less feet. Then I got a call. Would I be able to take care of another foster? Before Pooka could talk me out of it I agreed and hurried over to pick up the next little visitor. I had a choice this time. I could take the older female who needed a little out of cage TLC bef… read more

Pooka bugs me.... again

I don't know if I jinked Pooka when I named her after a impish little fairy or if she would have acted the same no matter what she was called. I am beginning to think that she WAS made to look so cute because it would help keep her from getting her little neck rung (not that I would). The wall hanging she is looking at in the photo is history. I put it up to teach kittens not to climb curtains. Most of them learned quickly. A couple of shakes and a short fall to a fluffy pillow broke … read more

How I manage to foster in an apartment

It is kitten season and shelters are bursting with cats. People who extend foster care help but there never seem to be enough people. I suspect that a lot more people would do it but don't think that they can because they already have pets and don't know where they would keep the foster. I had that problem until I had one of my little ideas (I don't know how/why they pop into my head. They just do. Some times they hurt.) I have a small second bedroom that I use for the computer and st… read more
