Guffy had another seizure

Posted in Health & Wellness

My parents' girl, Guffy, had another seizure last week after my sister visited with her dog. It apparently was bad, but it was significantly less severe than before she was put on phenobarbitol. We're all trying to accept that Guffy probably won't be with us much longer. At least she comfortable and mostly happy right now, which is the most impo… read more

A Guffy Update

Posted in Health & Wellness

According to my dad, Guffy's vet is calling her a "miracle dog" since she's stabilized with the steroids, phenobarbitol, and incontinence meds enough that she seems like her normal self. Guffy's prognosis isn't great, but it could be worse. She's doing better thanks to the steroid that she's on, but she's still very weak from the cluster seizures on Sunday night. At least she's regained some of her sight, and her hearing appears to be better as well. I guess the tumour/brain swelling was putting pressure on the connections that … read more

Another Guffy Update

Posted in Health & Wellness

Guffy went back to the regular vet this morning, and she has brain swelling compressing her optic nerve. Basically this means that she's almost completely blind, which must be frightening to have happen so suddenly. I've had some hands on experience working with sight impaired/blind dogs, but my parents' haven't since when our beagle, Doby, lost … read more
