It is interesting how dogs gain weight as they get older even if they eat the same food, the same amount of food, and get exercise every day. Is it just something that happens to all animals (even us!) as we get older, no matter how hard we try and fight it? read more

Have a meeting this evening, so I will go the shelter early so that I can visit some of my favorite dogs and get a chance to walk those that most need it. I try and walk the dogs that only the staff can walk. Our great group of volunteers provide a good deal of exercise to those dogs that have been tested and approved for adoption. I so enjo… read more

Tried unsuccessfully to get my 9 month old dog to walk on the treadmill. I have seen it done successfully so many times on the Dog Whisperer and it looked like a great way to exercise with my dog during inclement weather. At first she walked along - but nervously. Ugh....raining out today. What to do with the dogs? If we put them out in the back yard, they come in dragging mud. They seem contented laying about on the couches, but they really need the exercise. I was wondering if, due to the current economic downturn, if people would consider dropping their gym membership and going to their local shelters to take dogs for walks? It would be a "win-win" situation - you get your exercise and you just made some dogs lives much happier! read more
