Feeling blue..... without you....

Yesterday we had a wonderful party at Schweitzer Woods dogpark. Unfortunately, as I was leaving the Forest Preserve (and taking an access road which apparently I shouldn't have taken) my minivan got stuck in the mud. An hour later, a tow truck arrived and he managed to get stuck in the mud, too. He had to call a second tow truck to get him out-- but my van was too far for them to "rescue." Dogs in dogpark must be kept on leash...

It sounds like an April Fool's joke, but sadly it isn't. The Kane County Forest Preserve has determined that as of April 1st, dogs within the fenced 5-acre dogpark must be kept on leash. Dogowners have been letting their dogs run free in the fenced area for the past 5 or 6 years, since Emily Schweitzer died and deeded her land to the Forest Preserve. I came across this prayer in my friend's home and was surprised to find that Albert Schweitzer was related to the woman, Emily Schweitzer, whose property has become a forest preserve. Emily Schweitzer had a copy of this hanging in her house. I visit the Schweitzer Woods preserve frequently with my dogs and I am always overcome with the reverence and spirit of her land.
