A cat's curiosity

Mama Kitty and Button down i…

Posted in Behavior & Training

On one of our morning walks around the pasture (the dogs and me), two of our cats, Mama Kitty and Button, accompanied us. When we got to the ravine area, the cats started exploring an area where there were a lot of fallen limbs. They carefully walked through the limbs, and found a hollow area in the bank of the ravine. It was large to provide sh… read more

I've noticed that our horses enjoy eating the rounds bales of hay from the inside first. I don't know if the hay has a little more moisture on the inside, or what, but there is definitely something that attracts the horses to eat the middle first. Posted in Behavior & Training

It amazes me how herd dynamics work and change almost daily. Our herd consists of 5 horses, age 4, 6, 8, 18, and 20+. The 18 year old is the dominant mare. Yet, at other times, just th… read more

Posted in Behavior & Training

Maggie and Sugar are both young dogs who play together very, very well. One evening, one of them picked up a hoof to chew on and the other one wanted it. It was a "hoof pull" for a whole minute or two until one dog let go. I'm not even sure who won. It was fun to watch. read more

Posted in Behavior & Training

Belle Star is a rescue horse who has a lot of trust issues. One big one is being terrified of the big metal monster that wants to eat her up. I walk her around the trailer with the door open, and slowly try to get her a bit closer to the trailer with each trip around it. I stop her at the door and try to let her simply rest there, but she will p… read more
