I've been trying to halter my mare for weeks now, after a saddling incident that didn't go well. We finally had to rope her, which I was told I shouldn't do. But once she was roped, her anxiety level decreased immediately, and she was fine. I wish I had roped her weeks ago. Now, I can start all over again with her training and desensitizing. read more

I made the mistake of pushing Belle Star's training a little too fast, too soon, and accomplished making her afraid to be haltered now. I've been trying for over a month to regain her trust. We have a rescue horse who has trust issues. For weeks, I've been trying to catch her in order to isolate her for training. Our young friend suggested leading her friends (our two bay mares) into the pen and have her follow. It worked. I had not thought to do that. It sure helped to have someone else's ideas. read more

A few days ago, I saw Abigail and Belle Star wander over to the deadfall pile. They both stood there for about 2 or 3 minutes before moving on. I went over and looked, but couldn't see a thing that might interest a horse. I wonder what they were curious about! read more
