Springtime, when a young(ish) iguana's thoughts tu…

Yesterday I was feeling under the weather, so I left work early. However, it was the first lovely sunny day we've had in weeks, so I made sure to get Yaz outside for some rays. We both sat basking on the back patio, but since male iguanas tend to go into "season" twice a year (generally between April-June and October-December) they must be watched constantly. Oh, do I miss Gnarla! It was so much easier (believe it or not) sunning 2 iggies together. In addition, they … read more

Luuucy is Hooooome!

I called up Dave last night who was very happy to report that his best girl made it through her 2 hr (!) surgery and is resting comfortably in his arms at home. He was exhausted--from the trips back 'n' forth to Tufts, from trying to modify her entire ROOM to minimize her desire to climb, from all the WORRY & ANXIETY--so we didn't chat long, but I just wanted to know she was OK. Brief Lucy Update

It's been a long day, I just got home from work about an hour ago. We were short handed today at work, and wound up doing about 30 spay-neuter surgeries. And, though I think cell phones are the scourge of humanity, I borrowed my roomie's, so that Dave could contact me about Lucy. He called at an absolutely perfect time--I had just punched out for lunch. "Great timing," I told him. "I just got out of surgery." "SO DID LUCY!" &quo… read more

Gnarla's Long-Distance Sister

I just got off the phone w/ a very good friend of mine back east in MA. For the past wk or so, his adult iguana Lucy has been having odd physical symptoms and his herp vet (and I use the term extremely loosely) kept putting him off, saying they couldn't get Lucy in to be seen til June 9th. I have never heard of any vet worth his/her salt refusing to take an ill animal ASAP, especially one who's a "regular" patient, especially one who's a reptile, since reptiles can go downhill so rapi… read more

Life with Yaz

Well, it's been 25 days now since Gnarla's passing. It took me awhile, but I can now look at pics of her and smile, knowing we had a good time together for 4 years and that she would not have had that lifespan in the house where she was found. She had a spacious cage, an ig boyfriend/buddy/protector in Yaz, homegrown greens in the summertime, windows to look out of, cat trees to climb...I miss her so much, but now she is somewhere, no doubt running & climbing to her heart's content, boasti… read more
