Good news from Massachusetts!

My friend Dave's iggy girl, Lucy--the one who also had exploratory surgery, has salmonella IN THE BONES & a case of spondylosis--is improving by the day. She finished up w/ her antibiotics & the doc took her off pain meds to see how well she uses her back legs. (She'd been dragging them for several weeks and it was feared that she might be paralyzed.) Well, Dave called 2 nights ago, excited as a kid at Disneyland, exclaiming, "SHE'S USING HER BACK LEGS! She's off… read more

Camo's abduction

Yes, that's a dramatic "headline" but it's basically what happened. I just spoke w/ a new local reptile fancier a few minutes ago, asking about Camo. (The little iguana he's been attempting to rescue from friends who weren't taking care of him properly.) I saw him in May, right after Gnarla's death--I swear, it was like a sign--and brought Charles (the guy) all kinds of decent UVB lights, instructed him on proper diet for Camo, etc. After all, Camo looked maybe 6 months old, and I … read more

Springtime, when a young(ish) iguana's thoughts tu…

Yesterday I was feeling under the weather, so I left work early. However, it was the first lovely sunny day we've had in weeks, so I made sure to get Yaz outside for some rays. We both sat basking on the back patio, but since male iguanas tend to go into "season" twice a year (generally between April-June and October-December) they must be watched constantly. Oh, do I miss Gnarla! It was so much easier (believe it or not) sunning 2 iggies together. In addition, they … read more

Latest on Lucy

I spoke w/ Dave Wednesday night and Lucy is home and recovering...although, if it isn't one thing, it's another! Apparently, before her surgery, she was not using her back legs much, perhaps as part of a pain-avoidance posture. Well, this obviously doesn't help matters if one is arboreal, and she may have taken a few spills from her perches before Dave could get to her, resulting in some possible tail and spinal damage. He was understandably upset and beating himself up about it, as I'm sure … read more

Luuucy is Hooooome!

I called up Dave last night who was very happy to report that his best girl made it through her 2 hr (!) surgery and is resting comfortably in his arms at home. He was exhausted--from the trips back 'n' forth to Tufts, from trying to modify her entire ROOM to minimize her desire to climb, from all the WORRY & ANXIETY--so we didn't chat long, but I just wanted to know she was OK. Medically, he read the report which detailed her enlarged right ovary (which was removed and biops… read more
