Amy learns to sing, and rolls Tippy around the yar…

Amy has turned into quite the grand dame. Not only has she kept on top of Tippy's lessons, she has even learned a few of her own. I was tootling at her through a paper towel roll and she started singing soprano, head back, almost in a whisper. When she stopped, she looked at me like, "Hey, what just happened?" It was so funny. Now Amy knows what 'sing' means, and she will sing nearly on demand. All I have to do is tell her to sing and give her a high-pitched note, and sh… read more

Amy And Smokey And Tippy, Oh My!

What a ménagerie-à-trois I've accumulated! It's confusing to keep track of the antics, it's gotten to the point where I just sit back and watch. Amy has taken on the mothering of Tippy with great enthusiasm, to the point where her best pal Cherie came over to visit yesterday and Amy went nuts trying to protect Tippy from Cherie! And Tippy just wanted to play with his extended family member, but every time he initiated contact, Amy would jump in between them. It was funny to watc… read more

Tippy Attacks!

It's difficult when you think you acquired a cute puppy and he turns out to be a vicious mongrel, stalking and attacking everything that crosses his path with deranged determination and a killer instinct. Thank goodness Tippy is not that way! Amy has her paws full teaching Tippy the proper etiquette of being a puppy and respecting his elders, and recognizing his place in the household. I think human parents could learn a lot from watching dogs! They would learn that a nip does not… read more

The Education Of Little Tippy

Tippy was clearly the dominant male of the litter. He is very bossy, and when Amy reprimands him for biting too hard with his puppy needle teeth, he just bites back. It's difficult for Amy to make the message clear, because she is clearly holding back and trying not to hurt him, and he has such thick fur that anything short of a very hard bite just makes him yelp a little and lunge back at her. So, Amy has to grab his leg or take his muzzle in her mouth or grab some skin around hi… read more

Welcome to the family, Tippy!

Yesterday after the ZooToo visit, I heard someone say that the numerous puppies currently in the shelter would not all make it out, and I had a premonition that the one I had seen and liked would not make it out unless I took him home. So I gave in to an urge and took home a delightful little puppy that was begging for a home. He's a Husky mix, from a litter that looks like it has 3 or 4 bloodlines, including Husky, Border Collie, Golden Retriever, and maybe Australian Shepherd. The first three … read more
