Review Details

Whinney lick is great. It keeps the material up off the dirt by being contained in its own tub. The buckets come in different sizes from 20-pounds up to 60-pounds so if you have one horse you can hang it in the stall next to the feed bucket or you can set it near a feeding area for a whole herd. It uses molasses as a binder so the animals are drawn by the sweetness but don't seem "addicted" to standing around they way they would be if it were a treat. Using these licks is a good measure of how well balanced the horses' diet is. If the lick is quickly consumed, they aren't getting enough from their feed/hay and an adjustment needs to be made. A visit by the viet or nutritionist can be a good thing especially if you have working horses or are a breeder and a lick the animals will use is the best gauge out there. The ones that come in block forms often sit neglected due to mud or worse, just wear down from being rained on or dissolving if kept in a tub.
