Great meeting, thanks to all!
We came away with a few action items: Cheryl will be contacting the ZooToo officials to clarify the HSOV responsibilities for their visit. She reported from preliminary contact with ZooToo officials that since HSOV is the first shelter stop on their Mid-Ohio Valley tour, they may expect us to pick them up from the airport and bring them to the shelter, and that they are expecting an outdoor tent set up with a 'nice' meal. We're hoping that Cheryl won't have to spend the minimum $5,000 prize entertaining, since the shelter so desperately needs those funds.
We discussed the current shelter conditions and how the existing facility is almost hopelessly beyond redemption because of structural, age, and design issues, and the need for establishing a new shelter construction fund and searching for a new site if we don't receive the ZooToo grand prize.
We discussed our hopes for the future of the shelter, including: a membership drive (and more affordable membership) to immediately benefit the shelter and provide increased future support; a more comprehensive spay and neuter campaign, as well as increased veterinarian shelter support; pursuing grant funding for a more stable and permanent source of shelter operating funds so that ongoing fund raising efforts can support targeted shelter improvement projects; a more active interaction with, and oversight of, community volunteers for more effective shelter support; and ensuring the continued ongoing restoration of the public trust in the shelter, building on the publicity and goodwill generated by the ZooToo experience.
For now, we await the outcome of the ZooToo makeover contest to determine our future course of action. Our meeting gave us all a great sense of hope in the shelter's future prospects, there are so many unexplored avenues of shelter support, that we are just chomping at the bit. The ideas flowed non-stop, and we can only hope for the best outcome of the makeover contest as the best possible starting point for our future efforts, but no matter what happens, things will only get better.

It looks like we're going with the donated food (current estimate for 50 people, but too much food will not be a problem!), I'll send out an email shortly with request for assistance. We'll also need a tent loaned for the event, I don't know if that's been obtained yet but several ideas were offered, such as funeral homes, local colleges, fairgrounds/parks.
If anyone not already on the mailing list wants to help out, please send your email address via private ZooToo message with one of us participating in these discussions on ZooToo. We need all the help we can get.
On the grants, Cheryl has some info on available grants, but the more input the better. We will also need a grant writer (I may know one), if anyone has the skill/experience or wants to try it, please jump in!
Anyone else that has ideas like this and is not already involved, please, we need your help. The more people we can get involved, the better. Right now we need ideas!
