Can we do something for the shelter staff after this is all over?

March 30, 2008 | By John H. | 19 comments

I've only just started helping out the HSOV shelter, but I can understand how it must feel to be involved for many years and see this area come together with so much support. Cheryl must have done a good job of getting the word out, I know shelter workers and volunteers are actively spreading the word to individuals and groups, especially those that visit the shelter. Even with all that, it amazes me that HSOV is doing so well in the rankings, clear up to 10th a few minutes ago. It's just unbelievable. I know some people are spending all their spare time at their computer doing the hard work.

With all that support and hard work, I wonder if there is a chance we could try to pick a good weather day later this spring and set up a makeshift shelter canopy and hold a potluck barbecue for the shelter staff and volunteers. I could come up with a couple flea market-type canopies, and a smoker and barbecue grill. We could set up out front and start early, maybe on a Saturday, and have hot dogs for visitors, and some smoked meat and barbecue at the end of the day for the staff and vounteers.

With this much support, we should be able to put together something pretty good. Anyone?

I hope we can count on Debbie's experience, expertise, and guidance to keep us from being 'boarded'!
