Hi,always admired Dressage, but(like lots of Eventers) we've done it mostly as a means to an end, minimum needed to shorten/lengthen/turn for jumping, and get through the test. But this past year my horse had soundness issues, we couldn't jump, had to stay on soft footing in the arena. It turned out a blessing in disguise, we both developed a better attitude/work ethic towards Dressage, making small improvements daily.
Partly,my horse is no longer uncomfortable and is more willing, so we both have more fun. We are FAR from piaffe, etc. but now that his left front is no longer painful, we're getting both leads consistently, he is getting fitter and balanced-we're working on straightness in canter and counter-canter, sharpness in upward and downward WT,WC and TC transitions, balanced shortening/lengthening in T and C.
My horse is sound jumping, but I'm not fit-need some longeing lessons to get that muscle memory back so I don't flap on my poor boy's back!
