Cockatoos!

February 18, 2009 | By Diane T. | 3 comments

Hello out there! I keep checking in to see if there is anything going on. I guess I will try to start something!

I have 7 Cockatoos. All but two are second or third hand birds. They are none-the-less wonderful companions and, in spite of the baggage that came with them, our dearest and nearest friends.

How about everyone else? Do you have 'used' birds and how do they interact with you and your family? Any special issues?

I am owned by a 20 year old M2 who stole my heart 15 years ago even tho he thought I was a chew toy for the first year. He was very neiglected at the time and had some very interesting habits, but is not my man. Or is that I am now his non feathered bird? I only have the one pic of him with me that is already posted. I have a computer stolen from me that was filled with feather pictures. But alas I do not have a digital camera anymore (same reason) so when I am able to take more pics of my goof ball I will post them

I'm the 3rd caretaker of an Umbrella Cockatoo. She's approximately 32 years old & was wild caught from the forests of Indonesia (before it was illegal.) I've had her for about 14 years now. She's incredibly sweet & affectionate, but she never learned human language. That's just fine with me. She's a great companion. I've tried breeding her many times, but never any success. The last time her mate was very aggressive & almost bit her toe off. That's when I stopped trying to breed her. I love her to death & couldn't imagine my life without her!
