Shelter Makeover & beyond

Ok, so here we are....We are finally at the end of this particular marathon, but hopefully, this is only the beginning of a much larger race! Now that we've all voted, worn blue all week, and done all that we can to get the message out to the public, we need to remember that our public outreach and educational efforts shouldn't stop with the end of this contest. I am a firm believer that we, as an organization, have all the necessary tools to continue what we've started with this contest. Part of CMHS' mission has always been education and outreach to make the world aware of the plight of these animals with which we deal everyday; that said, I would hope that we could garner the same kind of support for our programs that we have for Zootoo. If we can bring this much public attention to bear on a contest, I firmly believe that we can persuade the public to continue to support the shelter by getting involved in shelter programs, as well as legislative support for animal rights bills & laws.

For too long, the supporters of CMHS have been content to let the shelter staff carry our message while we satisfy ourselves with the few hours a week that we volunteer for the shelter. The time for that old mode of thinking is over. If we are to carry forward in an effective manner, especially if we win this makeover, we need to be willing to make our voices heard and willing to step up to take our rightful places in the shelter team. I know from interactions I've had with our community of supporters that we have some passionate folks out there that have some wonderful ideas that we shouldn't be afraid to share. So, if you truly love CMHS and want to see it move forward better and stronger, SPEAK UP! Mentor some new volunteers, manage some shelter fundraising events, get involved with CMHS Friends for the Animals (CFA), or find your own way to reach out to the public, but please make the resolution to do something!
