New Shelter & Annual Meeting

For many years, Butte Humane Society has operated the Chico Animal Shelter for the City of Chico. Everyone who's seen the building knows that this facility is way past overdue for replacement. Thanks to Zootoo, more people than ever are aware of our dire situation... the overcrowding of animals, the inadequate space for operations, the failing or nonexistent ventilation and drainage, the list goes on. It is time to move forward with a new facility - one that our animals deserve and our community can be proud of.

Butte Humane Society will be having its annual Members Meeting on Thursday, July 30. The public is invited to attend (location and time to be determined) to hear about our recent activities and future plans, including a presentation and discussion of our plans for a new shelter. Because this new facility would offer increased services as well as additional housing, it is apparent that we will need to relocate from the current City facility at 2579 Fair St. BHS has identified the former Grocery Outlet building and 4+ acre lot as an ideal site for relocation and construction of a new state-of-the-art animal adoption & education center. Not only would this location offer increased visibility and access, the ability to remodel the existing structure could reduce our construction costs by half! We ask and urge all citizens to voice your support by writing letters to the local papers (Chico Enterprise-Record, Chico News & Review) and to the City Council (PO Box 3420, Chico, CA 95927) in support of securing this site as the location of Chico's future animal shelter.

Fantastic! I have been waiting to hear this for a long time and will be there for sure anytime. I just worked four hours cleaning overcrowded, old, kitty rooms that are in horrible shape plus the outside one is roasting hot. We need this so badly.
