Unwanted black cats

January 30, 2009 | By Sisa | 25 comments

I live in South and here are many, many black cats. Unfortunately, most of them are strays. Animal controls around here are full with black cats and I have heard that the shelters do not take any of them because they are very hard to adopt since nobody wants them. I am wondering if this a problem in other parts of the States a well?

I live in California and have never heard of black cats being harder to place. I've had cats all of my 43 years and all have been black except for one that was white. I would hope shelters would take all animals in need of a home.

the humane society in my town recently waived the adoption fee for anyone adopting a black cat! i have had 3 black cats as well as others, but to me black cats are special! i wish everyone could see how great they are. i have heard the same about black dogs- people are afraid of them. sounds wierd to me.
