my parkeet has a striaght beak and not curved downward. what would make this happened?

I just got 2 new parakeets. I got Jimmy first and Blue a month later. I am trying to get them to come out of their cage on their own with no luck. The book says not to force them out, but I don't know anyother way to get them out.
