Shih tzu hair/eyes

August 11, 2009 | By Katie P. | 4 comments

When was the first time everyone took their shih tzu to the groomers?

Should I cut the hair in Honeys eyes(she is 11weeks old)? They are so gross and i feel like she can't see sometimes. She gets so mad when I try to clean the goop out!

What is the best stuff to clean a puppies eyes(keep the hair white)?

Is there anything to keep down the product for yucky stuff in the eyes? is that normal or what?

sorry with so many questions I just need some help=(

Yes a certain amount of goop is normal for Shih Tzus - depending on the color. If it's white, green or yellow, they need to see the vet as it's probably an eye infection. Otherwise, clear or blackish looking goop is normal. There are several products available to clean their eyes with - I prefer the ones that have natural ingredients and act as an eye wash. I can't remember how old mine was when he went to the groomer the first time (he's now 10), but probably about 3 months old.

I took my Shih Tzu when he was about 10 weeks old. The groomers said it was good to take him this young as to help him become accostumed to the grooming process. He is seven months old now and doesn't mind his visits.

Yes, you should keep her hair out of her eyes and keep her eyes clean as possible. Gizmo gets the goop too, not sure whether or not it's normal and I don't know of anything special to use. I just try to keep his eyes clean and use dog wipes but try not to get it in his eyes.

Don't feel bad about all the questions, I have TONS! Everyone here seems friendly so far. Good luck with Honey.
