Puppy Aggression

November 12, 2009 | By Anonymous | 4 comments

My eight week old pit puppy Romeo has started to form food and resource aggression. I have been very diligent at addressing it each time he does it and he responds when I do. The problem is that he responds positively and then five minutes later does it again. His biting hurts and I am eager to hear any suggestions on training methods for him. Should I be sturn to show him I'm boss or should I use positive reinforcement? Thanks in advance!

Watch Cesar Millan!!!! Watch every episode that you can get your hands on, this problem will eventually turn up in one of the episodes. But for now, claim the food. put his bowl on the ground let him come to it and then stand directly over the bowl, one foot on either side of the bowl. If he bites your feet or legs, let him(better now than when he's full grown) and then SLOWLY move a tiny bit towards him. If he tries to go around you to get to the food just keep moving and blocking the food untill he finally walks away or sits down and surrenders. Do this for a few days in a row until he starts to give up immediately and then you can just do it every once in a while to remind him that it is your food and you are allowing him to eat it. Lemme know how it goes.

Watch the Dog Whisperer on Nat Geo. I have learned so much from him re. dogs using agressive behaviour.
