Possible to lose weight?

April 19, 2008 | By Betsy | 4 comments

Does anyone have a surefire way for Bailey (130 lb lab with orthopedic problems) to lose weight? He is forever hungry (typical) and I have tried so many things but haven't had any success.

I was just talking about this with a friend who has an overweight arthritic dog. Her dog accupuncturist suggested the pumpkin diet. She decreased his food from 2 cups twice a day to 1-1/3 cup twice a day and adds a heaping tablespoon of canned pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie filling) to his kibble. He's lost 13 lbs. since 5/26. She also walks him around block twice a day instead of once.

i work with a lab rescue and we have helped many dogs lose weight with the string bean diet. i fostered a dog that was 125# and is now down to a healthy 85# thanks to the string bean diet. you give the dog 1/2 his regular food & 1/2 string beans. the string beans fill the dog but have no calories!
