Golden aggression???

Our vet of many years told me that there is lots of Golden agression out there, mainly from bad breeding. Also our groomer. I was stunned to hear that, given that our first Golden, our Lifetime Dog, had the absolutely perfect Golden disposition, and that is what they are renowned for. And then, yes, the abuse that shows up in rescue dogs! Case in point: our first Golden foster did not like other dogs! I was like most of you: "Say What???" But learned the hard way that it was true. She was a "resource guarder," with affection and attention being the resource she was guarding. Anyway, we worked with a professional trainer who helped wonderfully and we were finally able to place her in a perfect Forever Home, where she could be the only dog. She was an older dog who had been returned to the Rescue group after several years and, because her records were off in storage somewhere we could never find out what her story had been to make her like that.

I have owned 3 goldens and all have barked at people and dogs walking past the house BUT as soon as those people come up to them they are happy to see new people.
