Front leg lameness

October 8, 2009 | By Seuuu | 4 comments

Just looking for any experience that you may have had with front leg lameness. My Rickey has been so for over 1 year. He has had a cast on for 10 wks, had xrays, joint taps for inflammation, nerve blocks and has been (and is again) treated for possible lyme. Still lame- does anyone have any ideas or advice? He has stumped his vet and 3 orthopedic vets ao I am getting a little desperate now. I just hate to see him in pain (he is currently on Metacam and Tramadol but still holds the leg up all the time). Any thoughts you may be able to offer will be most appreciated. I love my Angel Rickey and need to help him. Thanks!

Thanks for all your kinds thoughts for us. Since my post, a holistic vet in Speonk, NY has diagnosed it as a torn tendon in the shoulder with 40% muscle atrophy since we have kept him quiet for over a year (advice from 3 ortho vets). So, we started him on herbal remedies and acupuncture last week. Keep Rickey in your prayers that this is the thing that will finally help him. Thanks again!

I had a cocker spaniel for 13 yrs.My cocker spaniel developed bone cancer in her hind leg.
I am not sure what could be causing your Rickey's pain on this leg. You said they have done x-rays. So
that's a good thing that it was not cancer . I pray that you find out what is causing him pain. Sorry I could not be more help.
