loki - too

November 5, 2008 | By Sally B. | 5 comments

Just joined and noticed Loki's photo. Our Loki is a cocker spaniel and I haven't met another pet with that name so I thought I'd say hello to Loki the cockatiel from the Bianco dog/parrot/human family, especially from Loki the dog.

Also - posted Cielo, my cockatiel's photo and started this discussion because I want to find my lost guy and this group can might post stories of miraculous-seeming recoveries of lost parrots - or might have info leading to finding Cielo.

I joined the group primarily because I am desperately searching for, Cielo who was last seen 26 Sept 2008 in Chico CA. See his classified ad and his ad under lost pets for details and contact info. I have posted his photo in the group and with the various lost/classified ads. It is so heartbreaking to have your bird accidentally soar out the door - only one day after I recognized his wing feathers had grown enough to support full flight and made arrangements to have someone hold him while I clipped his feathers. I hear so many stories from others whose parrots flew off and - either returned much later from far away - or were never seen again.

I always wondered how those people could speak so easily about the event and live with such a painful loss. Now I know. You mourn and put up signs, post notices everywhere online possible, pay a lot of $$ for newspaper ads, download parrot sounds from youtube and entertain your neighbors by playing them outside at full volume. And don't give up on him, because he wouldn't give up on us.

I even spent his first day in the wild chasing him around the neighborhood while wearing my pjs, until some crows scared him out of a huge tree and he flew off and I couldn't keep up with his flight! I'm disabled and 60 years old and undoubtedly appeared a bit loony hustling the streets and calling into the sky. No one laughed or criticized me. Everyone has been compassionate, although I'm often asked why there is a bird cage on the roof of my house.

If anyone has a story about finding their lost bird, especially unexpectedly far away and after over a month, I would enjoy reading it in this group. Keeping up the hope and keeping on searching.

We named our bird Loki because she was a bit crazy when we got her and we thought she would be a very dedicated trickster as her personality came out. She hasn't gotten more Loki-like; we've just gotten used to her, but she is definitely an unusual bird. She loves to have her head rubbed, but gets very upset is you 'do it wrong' and she does this thing where she fake bites your finger up and down in rows (like a typewriter) when she's upset. Weird little thing, but we love her.

Please let me know how you are and whether you have any news of Cielo. Best wishes!

Sorry to be so long in replying - Zootoo never emailed me that you had replied to this thread. I just came back to it again by chance and thought I'd check on whether you'd had any success in finding Cielo. I sure hope so!

I know what you're talking about when you describe your worry wort Loki. Our dog Fennec is very moody, so much so that I sometimes think he's sick and then realize that he's just depressed because someone else in the house sick or upset. Amazing. Our other dog is exactly the same personality every day, but I swear, Fennec will tell me what's going on in my head before I even realize that I'm acting any differently.
