is anyone else having potty problems?

my little angel :)

my sweet angel boy, Dante was found 6 weeks ago roaming the streets in my cousins neighborhood, and we took him home. right away he was perfect, i love him(he is my first chi) like i love my two year old son, we had NO problems. i scheduled a vet visit, and we went to be neutered and shots and flea control, and they said he was 6 months old and purebred. after we picked him up from his being neutered and brought him home, he would not go potty outside! we went through 3 days of this and i took him back to the vet thinking something was wrong. they took a look and said he is perfect except maybe having trouble holding it to go outside because of surgery and to give him a few days. i bought him puppy pee-pee pads to give him a place to go if this was the case, and he used them for about 2 weeks. in the meantime, he totally REFUSES to go out into the grass and even sniff, let alone go potty out there. i put him on a schedule with his eating and take him out accordingly, still no luck, i tried putting him in a crate while im not home, and he pooped in there and was covered in it (i was only gone for an hour), so now i dont like to use it... he also knows he is naughty when he does it, he wont "go" in front of us, and he will wait for us to leave the room, or go out, anytime he has just the smallest amount of time he will relieve himself on the floor and then go hide! i need advice..... i LOVE my little boy, but what is up with this, and is anyone else having problems???

I have to say "ditto" to what Vicki P. comments. My Chihuahua, Boots, had some complications with his surgery (think they called it Criptochid??) and had the same problem. I thought he'd never go outside again but he did eventually and now he can hold it all day. Such a good boy! Be very thankful Dante will use puppy pads because Boots just thinks they are there for him to run and be able to slide across the carpet on like a skateboard :)!
Best of luck and lots of patience!
