I'm no mama's girl!

I have a heck of a time keeping the knots out of the hair on my Cavvy's ears. With regular brushing the rest of her body stays tangle free but I am costantly having to cut knots from behind her ears. She is a TomBoy and I know that has a lot to do with it because she always has her head into something. Would it be wrong of me to keep the hair on the back side of her ears trimmed? She has such pretty hair that I hate to have to do that but when she scratches she sometimes gets her nails caught in the tangles. Any suggestions?
