I come again for support.

May 2, 2010 | By Aki

My Sora is in the pet hospital. I know he's doing better, but I feel like I'm losing my mind.

He went in last night at 11pm because I noticed after a half an hour of trying he couldn't pee. I called this morning and they're making sure he didn't get blocked up again. They said it looks like I caught it early enough that it shouldn't be too bad. Sleeping last night without him was the hardest thing.
I've never been so afraid that I might lose an animal in my life. He's only one and a half. My little rescue kitty.
I'm still scared. Thank you for letting me talk it out.

Is that Sora in your pic? He's beautiful. My vet told me that cats are much tougher than we are. My cat Ellie went through the same thing. She is prone to kidney stones. Keep plenty of water around. i didn't realize that Ellie wasn't getting enough. I'll pray for you and Sora. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Prayers for your sweet kitty. I hope he'll be home soon and totally fine again. I have found that canned food is healthier for kitties who have problems like his. Good luck.

My Capone has FLUTD and has plugged up twice. He does not get stones but inflammation and the harder he tries to urinate the worse it gets. I give him 90% canned food with the lowest magnesium % I can find-0.25% and add cranberry powder to it as well as a little water. I also feed Wysong Uretic dry food so I can leave for a weekend now and then. Wysong Uretic is made for these types of issues but is good food, unlike the SD CD canned I was having to give him. Anyway, good canned food ,I use Wellness, and water and cranberry powder has made the difference for Capone. Good luck and may God Bless.

You did the right thing taking him to the vet so quickly. I lost my cat Bailey to a urinary blockage. By the time I noticed he was having a problem and got him to the vet for surgery the crystal build-up in his urine had damaged his kidneys as well. He survived the surgery to remove the blockage, but his kidney's failed. Poor Bailey was only 5. I have had many cats over the years and he was the only one to develop this problem. Now I get his brother Keebler tested every year when he gets his vaccinations and teeth cleaning. It is definitely nothing to fool around with, if you suspect your cat is having a difficult time urinating get him to the vet ASAP.

Sending best wishes for Sora's full recovery and return to you. He is lucky to have such a good Mom.

Yes, you are certainly a good cat mama by recognizing something was wrong so quickly. Don't get discouraged if he blocks again within a short time frame - this is very common and will hopefully be the last time he gets blocked.

It is so understandable to be so concerned and stressed - they are so helpless and look to us for their care, especially when they don't understand and are not feeling well.

He'll be fine - keep us posted!!
