Ball Python life-span?

February 11, 2009 | By Stacy J. | 3 comments

Sebastian

My ball python Sebastian is 20 yrs old. I have owned her since she was 2. I was wondering if anyone knows just how long they are known to live. I have read books but they really don't state the actual life expectancy. I have heard that the longest known in captivity was 50 yrs. But not sure if this is average or not. If anyone could shed some insight into this subject that would be great.

Thank you for the info. about 30 yrs was what I was thinking as well. Their long life span is an important aspect to consider for those interested in purchasing a BP as a pet. They are definately a lifetime comittment.

As for the name...I named her Sebastian before I knew she was a female. Kept the name just because I liked it.

Agreed, 20-30 years sounds about average, but I wouldn't be surprised if they could live much longer with proper care.
20 years is simply amazing, I hope I can do as well with keeping my ball(not yet a year old!) as you've obviously been doing. :)
