I definitely agree with you that animals should be adopted first and foremost. I also feel that that even though the shelters are doing a fantastic job there are those out there (which has been evident in the news of late) that just plain are wrong as pet owners. The shelters do the very best that they can and all are to be commended for the work they perform. There has got to be stricter legislation/harsher punishment to somehow make these "low lifes" think before they abuse an animal. Just in the past 3 days there have been 100 mustangs that have been rescued in Colorado/176 thoroughbreds in NY that were nearly starved/problems with horses in California/possibly more horse problems in Florida/idiots in NY that are rubber banding the muzzels of their dogs and the list is continuous and it is a national problem. This cannot keep going on like this.I really appreciate your reply. Thanks.

There are far and away too many people out there buying pets from breeders--this has to stop. Adopting animals of all kinds from local shelters is the way to end animal abuse and care for our little friends in need. In this effort, the ASPCA is a leading crusader in this quest.
