My dog had an especially difficult neuter. He was doing fine until he got an infection in one of the incisions. The plactic collar that the vet put on him stressed him out. We went to Klem's and bought a E-Collar by Kong Pet Care. He still wasn't thrilled but at least he didn't panic. He even could relax and stop panting. Hopefully this will help him mend:)
