A well balanced diet with higher protein and reduced fat levels may help promote an appropriate weight level, allowing for necessary mobilization of energy reserves without reducing muscle tone. L-carnitine, an amino acid found in meat protein, may play an active role in the metabolization of fat reserves and may help prevent additional weight gain. Muscle Mass: Reduce the calories while preserving muscle mass. To prevent excess weight gain and return to an ideal weight, a small breed dog needs a low calorie food that is still just as tasty. The food should be rich in proteins to enable the dog to lose weight while preserving the muscle mass. The reduced fat content (11%) and the high protein content (30%) help limit weight gain while maintaining the muscle mass. Antioxidant Vitamins E & C: Anticipates the effects of time for the small breed adult dog. When they are in good health, small breed dogs have a longer life expectancy (average of 15 years), which means additional exposure to the effects of aging.
