I bought a pair of Yaktrax Pros so I could run in snow and on ice, and discovered that they are excellent for walking my dogs in these conditions.
There are two models - Walkers and Pros. The main difference is that the Pros have a strap that goes over your shoe, goes through a loop, and then velcroes to itself. The Walkers don't have this, but I really doubt they would come off of your shoe either way, as they are a bit of a challenge to put on in the first place.
Today our sidewalks are covered (and I mean COVERED) in a layer of ice. I walked the dogs and did a 5-mile run, and did not slip once.
