The large size is great for water. My dog drinks a lot of water I hated looking down and discovering that her water bowl had been empty for who knows how long.
Our bowl has collected a few rust spots over time, especially on the bottom. Water tends to collect there when the bowl is being filled and remains trapped throughout the day in the seal that is formed between the floor and the rubber base.
The rubber base is fine for keeping the bowl from sliding. The top ridge of the rubber is a great dust collector, though. I once tried removing the rubber in order to clean the bowl more thoroughly. That was not a good idea. It was hard to get it back on and it never fit correctly after that.
