We have gentle leaders for both of our large dogs. We purchased the first one for our 79 lb shepherd ridgeback mix because she would lunge at other dogs when on a regular leash. The gentle leader allowed my wife to control her and seemed to calm her down. Now we use a gentle leader on her any time we take here on a walk on the trail. The DVD that comes with it provides good instruction. The only negative I have seen is that some dogs will initially throw a tantrum when it is put on the first time but they eventually get over it. According to our trainer occasionally you will find a dog that won't respond but I have only heard positive results from other folks who have used them.
