Review Details

We had a pack of dogs that didn’t have much experience with children, much less babies, and twins were expected. I chose “Preparing Fido,” a CD from Animal Behavior Associates Inc., and it was my responsibility to play it for the dogs. At first, the dogs alerted to the various cries, coos, and laughs, but after a while, they didn’t seem to pay any attention. When the babies came home, the dogs were more interested in the babies’ scents than their verbalizations, so it’s not easy to tell if the CD had an effect.

However, one day, one baby, about two months old, was inconsolable and cried and cried and cried. No one could pacify her. The dog I worried about the most got off his bed, solemnly walked over to the baby and looked into her eyes. They made eye contact, and the dog gave a nod. The baby immediately stopped crying, and the dog turned and went back into his bed.
