Review Details
I decided to read this book after I started hearing about all the hooplah surrounding its release. I began reading it one day in Waldenbooks and, after reading roughly 20 pages, decided I needed to buy it on the spot and take it home with me.
I was especially interested in it because the author, John Grogan, is a former Kalamazoo Gazette staff writer, and, as a former employee of the Gazette, I found it fascinating that someone there had really hit the big time.
To be completely cliche, the book is a heartwarming tale of John and his loveable but rambunctious pup-turned-dog Marley. I don't want to give away many of the details, but the book chronicles life's events and the unconditional love of a dog.
John tells the story in a very conversational way, and you really start to feel like you're a fly on the wall, watching his life unfold with this tub-of-lard dog, Marley.
I laughed, I cried, and I loved every second of this book. I highly recommend it to not only dog lovers, but also those looking for a meaningful tale of a family and their beloved pet.
