The "lake" part is Cumberland County, England, where my breed was developed in the early 1800s to protect farmers' flocks from foxes and such. The "terrier" comes from the distinguished mix of Dandie Dinmont, Bedlington, and Border Terriers I call my kin. The result of that blend, a robust hunter resembling a miniature Airedale, was admitted to the AKC's Terrier Group in 1934.

What to expect
As you plan my obedience training, you should know about my terrier personality. Words like "intense" and "determined" have been used to describe me. So have "stubborn" and "obstinate." So you'll want to make my training firm but gentle, patient, and consistent. Remember -- you're the boss, I'm just here to help -- and we'll have a long, cordial working relationship.
Watch for
Possible patellar luxation (slipped kneecaps), and cataracts.
