I've used these vets for years and wish I could give them a higher rating. The staff is very friendly and Dr. Bonnie Abbott (formerly Dr. Barrios) is a wonderful vet that understands the grieving process. Dr. Abbott is one of a small number of vets who is willing to make house calls for euthanasia.
My problem with Araphoe Animal Hospital overall is that they advocate over vaccinating the animals. After a few years of their recommended yearly vaccines, I noticed that my terrier mix, Bijou, had develped skin irritations and allergies. Is this a coincidence? I don't think so. I also brought in a very elderly, ill cat one day and Dr. Greg Hayes, a co-owner, suggested the cat be given a rabies shot - since he had a cranky disposition. I have since learned the first rule of vaccines is to never administer one to a sick animal - ever. I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it seems the owners are putting profits over the well-being of the animals by recommending all these
vaccines. Based on the latest research on vaccines for pets, what Arapahoe Animal Hospital advocates is outdated at best, and at worst it is detrimental to the animals. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of this and will follow their advice without question, unknowingly harming their pets in the process. I am grateful to be awake to this now, but I still feel bad sometimes
about the times I allowed them to over vaccinate my pets.
