I went to Club Barks today for a trial day for my chow mix Bear. I had heard some terrible things about the owners, staff and the facility but chose to try it out anyway and boy were my friends right. I was unfortunately greeted by a young woman, mid 20s with glasses and short reddish hair. She was very unprofessional and should not have been working behind the desk. She didn't seem interested in me or my pet at all. I asked for a tour of the facility and I was told they only offer a video tour which is not to my liking. Most places will gladly welcome you into their facility and are proud to show it off to potential clients. It seems as though there was something they were hiding. There is absolutely no outdoor play area, just a asphalt paved, fenced in yard where the dogs are expected to go to the bathroom. The staff seems about as knowledgeable about pets as I can get doing the same case by case research on the internet. We decided on Camp Bow Wow in Elmwood Park instead. Kind courteous staff, a completely OPEN indoor/outdoor facility that the owner walked me through inch by inch, a webcam accessible to me online anytime the dogs are out of their "cabins", and staff that are obviously educated and know what they are talking about. I will never refer anyone to Club Barks and hope that people will take any warnings about them seriously before trusting them with the life of your pet.
