Ok - My mom's cats had this and they didn't like it much. They never played with it by themsleves. You had to sit there and push the ball around and make them chase it. And even then they would get bored with it. I think maybe they prefer other toys that can go all around and they can chase under furniture and stuff.
The open top one is a bit better then just the one with the sides open. I catsat for a cat that would play with this once in a while . The open top part is what would get his attention. But again - you had to sit there with him and push the ball around to get him going. As soon as the ball stopped moving you had to push it to get the cat to play. And personally i would rather play with a cat with something else.
