I've been using this for years

I saw a product for a littler box additive that sold for $15 and the active ingredient was baking soda, of course they used the technical term for baking soda. Use a sifter to get a nice fine layer without lumps in the littler box and you'll use less of it.

This is the best little known secret ever! It really helps alleviate litter box smells. I sprinkle this in the box before the litter goes in and in between layers of litter. If my cat is ill and has horrible smells coming from the box, I sprinkle some more in before I get the chance to change the litter.
