Review Details
We test all of our cats - whether they are being adopted or going to another rescue or shelter - for both FELV and FIV with this test. Although it is more expensive than just the single test, we feel that we owe it to the cats and to their new families to use the best available. This test is approximately 99% specific and 99% sensitivie, which means that you get very few false positive or false negatives.
For those few positives that we have had, we retest multiple times and then finally send the blood off to a lab for a confirmatory test and so far, the snap test has always been accurate.
There was just another price increase, but because we are able to get shelter pricing, it still costs us just a little more than $10 per test which is a real deal if you price what it would cost the owner to have it done at a veterinary clinic.
