Giving wild birds suet in the cold winter months can be the difference between life and death for them. I feed suet blocks from a hanging wire basket wo help keep the squirrels from hogging it all. Currently in my area of Connecticut, the Kaytee brand seems to be readily available. It comes in lots of different formulas to meet different species dietary preferances, but the main ingredient, rendered fat, is what helps them survive the fridgid temps of winter.
Thats the upside for the birds. The upside for you is that your yard will have plenty of visitors!
