I've always kept feeders for the birds.In the winter,I like to make Peanut Butter treats for the Birds and the Squirrels. If you like watching the birds,this is something you can get creative with,to attract other species.My favorites have always been the Chickadees,Nut Hatchers and the Woodpeckers.
