Review Details

I have been using Flight Suits with my birds since 2001 and have found them to be very useful. These liners make the suits that much better for the bird and owner! They keep the bird dry by absorbing moisture from the droppings instead of letting the material of the suit get soiled and eventually spread moisture up the suit toward the bird. They also make cleaning the suit easier for the person by cutting clean-up down a great deal.

A lot of people say the suits are horrible and that their bird was terrified of it, that their bird is now traumatized forever. I'm pretty sure they didn't follow the directions of acclimating the bird to the foreign object first. It is much easier to get a young bird to use them, but I've gotten my older birds to use them, too - it just took longer since I spent a long time getting them used to it before even putting it on them. I spent days with the suit just laying around in the same room as the bird. I would switch its location and over time move it closer to the cage to waiting to move it only when the birds finally stopped paying lots of attention to it because they got use to seeing it. After those days, I'd sit the suit down next to me on the couch while I played with the birds. After a few play sessions like that, I'd go on to the step of holding the suit and the bird, eventually (while talking soothingly to the bird) petting the bird with the suit and letting them inspect it with their beaks (the suits are very durable!) Doing this over and over again for a days before trying to put the suit on them lead them to have no fear of it and made it easy to put it on them.

I liked the idea of them since I had an incident where one of my birds was flung by a family member's guest because it pooed on them and they didn't know what to do! People are less worried by the bird when they know it can't poop on them and are calmer around the bird making the bird less stressed around new people. I actually housed a conure once that got excited when seeing the suit because he knew it meant he was going to get to play with lots of people!
