Every once in awhile our dog will urinate on our bed. It took some time to figure out which pet was doing this. Does anyone else have this problem?

I believe it is probably a dominance issue, marking the bed as his territory, but I would take the dog to the vet and check to see if he has a bladder infection. My cat used to tinkle in the clean clothes basket in the laundry room, which was where the litter box was, and it usually signalled an infection. If not an infection, or another medical problem, then I would agree to implementing the "pack leader stuff!" Do not allow him on the bed, and make sure he knows that the people in the house are the Alpha Dogs!

I saw this on Cesar Milan . . sometimes it is a sign of dominance . . they are marking your bed. In that case, he said the dog should not be allowed on the bed and you need to implement all that pack leader stuff!

I only had this happen once....when we moved to our new home, I was trying to keep our cat inside until he was acclaimated to his new surroundings. On night three--he urinated on the bed at 3am--I think he was trying to get me up (because he knew I'd have to change the sheets!) to let him outside--which I did immediately. Who says animals aren't smarter than we are? In other words he was frustrated, so he used the only way he knew how to get my attention!

I literally just had this happen a week ago. Took Lucy to the vet and found out that she has a little bit of arthritis in her hind legs and hips which made her not use the musles enough and they are slighty atrophied. In addition, she is on the edge of having Cushing's Disease. Both can be helped with meds. Please take your dog to the vet to make sure there are no physical problems.

Is the dog spayed or neutered? Is it an older dog? If it's not a UTI or incontinance problem it could be a dominance thing. Dogs will often urinate on something that belongs to them or they want to belong to them. Dogs don't do things in spite or because they get mad. That would mean they can reason and they can't.If your not a strong pack leader and the dog is, he may be telling you the bed is mine and you need to stay off. Best to consult a behaviorist and see what they say after you rule out anything physical.

Your dog just might not want to get down and go to the door. You might try getting up with her through out the night and let her out that way she can get use to going out and see how that works. Your dog might also have a UTI and taking it to the vet wouldnt hurt either!!!

Maybe talk to your vet he might have a UTI. A coworker was having the same problem with her dog and this is what her vet said. With a few pills he was all better.

My dog has never peed in the house except on her bed or somewhere that she considers her bed. I agree that it is quite odd as that is supposed to be the one place that they won't pee. It wasn't when she was sick or anything, though. Normally she would get really wound up and crouch and pee, but sometimes, she'd just do it. I don't think it was spite either. I guess I don't really have an answer, but I have the same problem every now and then.
